The most popular breeds at Performance Dog Shows change from decade to decade. In the 80's the most popular breeds at the events were mid-size, long hair breeds like Spaniels. In the nineties, the most popular breeds were small breeds like poodles.

Currently there is a very large range of popular breeds at performance dog shows. Large breeds like Siberian Huskies and St. Bernards are often seen competing in the show. Small breeds like schnauzers and pomeranians are also often seen at the events. It is important to know that there are a few competitions that all breeds compete in almost equally as well as the other breeds.

Different shows feature different events. Some of the different types of events are Frisbee, Freestyle dance and Flyball. The type of the show will determine the most popular type of breed there.

Small and miniature breeds tend to compete well in Freestyle dance events. Most dog breed collars come in many of these breeds including Miniature Pinschers, Miniature Schnauzers and Poodles.

The best breeds for flyball competitions tend to be larger breeds. These breeds include Great Danes, Golden Retrievers and Rhodesian Ridgebacks. There are different types of dog breed collars featuring these breeds.

There is no longer a standard type of breed for a standard competition. Some breeds do tend to compete better at specific sports. A specific dog though, may prefer a sport that is different from what their breed traditionally competes best in.

If your favorite breed is not a popular breed for Dog Performance Shows today, it may be tomorrow. Just like fashion trends, animal breed trends change frequently.
