In 1870, a dog called “Hooper’s Judge” was sold to a man in Boston, Massachusetts. This dog helped to father the entire Boston Terrier breed. Basically a cross between a white English Terrier and an English Bulldog, the Boston Terrier originated there in Boston.

This was the time just following the Civil War and the breed was developed as a fighting dog. Although developed to fight, this breed is actually well-known for being a family-friendly dog. Easy to care for, with little grooming and a gentle temperament, the Boston Terrier is a popular American house pet. This dog is also high in energy and intelligence.

This breed is known for its compact build, short square head, and unique markings. In order to be considered a Boston Terrier, the dog must be seal, black, or brindle with white markings. These dogs have an appearance, in form and expression, of determination and kindness.

Due to the unique shape of the neck and head, it may be helpful to order a collar designed specifically for the breed. With short, smooth hair, they require little maintenance. They also do not require frequent walks, compared to other breeds. These dogs are great for taking on walks as they love to stay by their owners, with or without a leash. And unlike many other breeds, the Boston Terrier is easily trained, making it an ideal companion.
